About Us

Comparative Vacuum Monitoring (CVM™) technology has been designed and developed over the past 15 years by Structural Monitoring Systems plc (SMS) – a UK registered, Australian-based company listed on the ASX (ASX: SMN).

CVM™ was developed in response to an identified need for an accurate and reliable in-situ structural health monitoring (SHM) solution to ensure the structural integrity of commercial airframes were held to the highest levels of safety and reliability.

The technology is designed to supplement or replace the current routine use of manual testing, which is a re-occurring and extremely labor-intensive procedure that is subject to possible human error and misinterpretation. The aviation industry was identified early in development of the technology as a high-value application.

CVM™ is the first FAA certified at-the-gate airframe crack detection compliance technology to become commercially available to reduce maintenance time and costs associated with certain structural inspections at major heavy and out-of-sequence checks. The first approval for the Intelsat (Gogo) Wi-Fi Antenna application was granted in March 2022, while the second approval, for the Aft Pressure Bulkhead (APB) application, is currently pending final review by the FAA.

The technology has been licensed to Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corp. (AEM), a Canadian electronics manufacturing company based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, which is wholly owned by SMS plc. AEM is responsible for all research and development, sales and marketing, manufacturing, installation, and ongoing customer support for CVM™ .
